July / August 2012 Monthly Empties!

So as promised my next post would be a collaborated July and August Monthly Empties. I haven't got many really as most things are about half empty, I'm hoping to have more for the next month. So these are my July and August Empties....

Simple Kind To Skin Purifying Cleansing Lotion
I loved using this Lotion as a Day time moisturiser, it worked great under my makeup. It kept my skin moisturised all day and didn't make me break out. The only thing I didn't like about this product was how you have to squeeze it to get it out, since its only got one hole when I did that I often had access product left over so it kinda wasted most of it. It would be great depoted into a bottle though.

Nivea Smooth Nourishing Hand Cream
I had a larger version of this hand cream featured in my June Empties which you can see here. This is the sample size i got at Christmas or something and only started using it a month or two ago. I loved it! Its definitely helped my nail growth as well as keeping my hands moisturised and in tip top shape. Without it for past few weeks I've definitely seen a change for the worse in my hands and I think I'll have to invest in this again or buy something else.

Barry M 3 In 1 Mascara
This is another product I've had since Christmas but only got round to using it about 3 months ago? This mascara is supposed to give you volume, length and curl. In all honesty I got none of that. Its great for applying to your bottom lashes though, due to the thin, straight, basic wand. I wouldn't deem in worthy of £6.19.

Morrison's Make Sensitive Facial Wipes
My Mum usually gets my Facial / Makeup Remover Wipes for me and she usually just gets what ever. Its like trying to remove your makeup with a Kleenex. I had to use 3 of these things just to get one face of makeup off, were I usually only have to use one. There not thick either , which is another thing I usually look for in a Facial / Makeup Remover Wipe. They tore super easy.

July / August 2012 Monthly Favourites!

So if you follow me on twitter, my links here, you will know that this month I wanted to do a collaboration of July and August favourites. As I didn't do a July favourites last month due to not having enough time, I'm going to do the same thing with my Monthly Empties in the next post. So here's what I've been loving out of my collection the past 2 months...

First to the eye products I've been into....

MUA Pro Going For Gold Eyeshadow Palette
I haven't been able to put this thing down lately! The great mix of Golds and Greys in this palette is perfect for the nearing end of Summer into the beginning of Fall. These eye shadows are pigmented, long lasting, blend able and inexpensive! You can see my full review and swatches here.

MUA Pro Gel Liner, Tribe
This was featured in a Haul a few weeks ago, but I haven't got round to reviewing it..yet! Tribe is a beautiful, bold and vibrant aqua turquoise shade perfect for those whom love wearing statement colours on their eyes. It holds up amazing with a primer and certainly doesn't lack in pigmentation. It applies a dream and I would totally recommend picking one up for only £3's.

Collection Glam Metallic Coloured Liquid Eyeliner, Grunge
This is something that's been lying in my eyeliner draw for god knows how long. Its a shame really because this is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The fine, sleek applicator is perfect for getting really close to the lash line and creating the perfect straight line. I only needed to apply one coat to get a opaque line, which didn't smudge nor flake off.

Collection Lasting Perfecting Minerals Foundation Powder, Ivory
When they say "foundation" in the products name they weren't lying... This thing is basically a foundation in powder form! It gives shockingly amazing coverage for being a drugstore product. It also stays put all day, I originally bought this is the second lightest shade honey but then went back and got the lightest in ivory instead. I can't stress how great this product is! It saves plenty of time in the mornings and is great if your in a rush. You can see my full review here.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder, Transparent
So of course I had to feature my newly found, perfect pressed powder! I'm obsessed with this thing, I don't think I'll ever change my powder again. It does a fantastic job of setting liquid makeup, and keeps me matte. You can see my full review here.

Collection Cream Puff Lip Cream, Fairy Cake
If you read my blog regularly you'll know that I'm a huge fan of Matt lips! This is easily one of my most favourite Matt lip products in my lips collection. It stays put for around 5 hours without needing a touch up, depending on weather you eat or drink something. It doesn't dry out my lips, the shade itself is sort of a coral. I love it! You can check out my full review here.

On a whole I've been loving MUA and Collection's products this month, they are probably now my most favourite makeup brands!

Review: MUA Pro Going For Gold Eye Palette!

This is easily my favourite palette by MUA.... Yet! To celebrate the Olympics MUA introduced a limited edition eyeshadow palette. The same as the other palettes, this costs £4 from Superdrug or you can purchase it from the MUA website here. At the moment it's on offer, with a £1 off.

Unlike the other MUA palettes, this one has square pans and only 10 shades, unlike the usual 12 circle pans.

 First Row, Shades 1-5

Second Row, Shades 6-10

Likewise all the other MUA Pro palettes, the pigmentation is fantastic, not something you would really expect from a £4 drugstore palette. The matte shades of the palette, are slightly less pigmented, yet they are still easily build able which I love! They are sooo creamy to swatch, apply and blend together with ease. This palette is mainly pearl based with the odd matte thrown into the mix, however the shimmer on some of the pearl shades is hard to believe. Shade 5 is a mix of yellow/orange/gold and is EXTREMELY shimmery.

I can usually get a full day of wear out of these eye shadows alongside primer, without they crease slightly by the end of the day, but still remain their vibrant colour. Likewise the other palettes you get a little double ended sponge applicator, which I only ever use for Nail Art. The packaging of the palette is black plastic with a transparent lid, making the eye shadows within visible.

Overall I would definitely recommend giving this palette a go! For £4 it's totally worth a try, especially if your a Gold lover like me. I love wearing Golds near the end of Summer into fall.

Review: Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat!

Since I'm quite a big fan of nail art, I love to be able to keep my designs as long lasting as possible. That's when a good Topcoat comes in. I've tried a few Topcoats now, but to be honest none of them have been very good. I took the plunge and purchased this one, despite the pretty hefty price tag. This Topcoat cost roughly between £9-£10, it doesn't say on the Boots website nor Superdrug.

In all honesty this Topcoats really not worth the price tag. Like I said the main reason I purchased this was because of the long lasting polish claims. I can usually get about a day or two with this Topcoat without chipping. I also found the colour nail polish I applied under the Topcoat to smear when I applied it. The packaging is about average, it does its job but not the most stylish.

However one thing I do like about this polish is the shine, the shine wears from when I first apply the Topcoat till when I remove it ( a week.) In a way it also bonds the polish together if you get what I mean? Like sort of making it all 1 layer. The dry time is excellent, way better then my last Sally Hansen Topcoat ( Review Here) It dries basically within seconds!

Overall I just wouldn't bother trying this Topcoat. For the price it certainly isn't worth what it is, for £9's in my opinion I would expect more then this. I might consider trying this as a Base coat instead as smoothing polish amazingly.

Tutorial: Duck Nail's!

Here's a little song to listen to while you read the post :)

So today's Sunday and the day I change my nails. This week I thought I'd do a tutorial instead of a NOTW, so this is what I came up with....

Here's what I used....

  • A piece of paper
  • Eyeshadow sponge
  • 2 Cotton Buds/ Q Tips
  • 3 Dotting Tools
  • Sally Hansen Double Duty Base coat & Topcoat
  • Barry M, Mint Green
  • Collection 2000 Hot Looks, Lemon Soda
  • Technic Nail Polish, White
  • Miss Sporty Lasting Colour Pro Brush, Fatal Black
  • MUA Love Hearts Range, I WANT U
  • Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours Nail Polish, China Glaze
  • Seche Vite Dry Fast Topcoat
First apply Sally Hansen's Double Duty Base coat & Top coat. I applied two coats for extra protection.

Next apply two coats of Barry M's Mint Green. It doesn't need to be fully opaque as you would be covering 2/3 of the nail with more polish.

Now you can start drawing your Ducks onto your nails.Pour a small amount of Collection 2000's Hot Looks nail polish in Lemon Soda onto the paper.  Using the larger end of the white Dotting Tool make two circles upon the nail, one below the other. Then using the smaller end make a dot the opposite side of the nail.

Still using Lemon Soda, make two curved lines to connect the circles together to make the duck's body like the photo below.

Now fill the shape in, once again using Lemon Soda.

Next it's time to give the Duck's some character. Using the Technic white nail polish, pour a tiny amount on the paper then make a dot using the large end of the pink Dotting Tool, on the Duck's face. Once it's completely dry, using the smaller end of the Dotting Tool, take the Miss Sporty nail polish in Fatal Black and make a dot in the centre of the white one. Taking the MUA nail polish in I WANT U, make a triangle in the middle left of the ducks face, then fill it in.

Taking the Eyeshadow sponge and the Miss Sporty nail polish in China Glaze. Pour a small amount of the nail polish onto the paper and dip the edge of the Eyeshadow sponge in. Gently sponge the polish onto the nail to give a slight gradient effect.

Now your almost done, apply a thin coat of Seche Vite's Dry Fast Top Coat. Then taking a cotton bud/ q tip, dip it into nail polish remover and wipe around your nail to remove any access polish. This makes the final look look more tidy.
Here's another look at my final outcome....

What nail art design should I attempt next week? :)
